“Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,” 1 Peter 1:3-4

Sometimes we need to just go back to remembering the basics, especially when you’re like me and you tend to mess up a lot. It is always good to remember the amazing inheritance that awaits us- an inheritance that no sin can tarnish.

We can call God blessed, or praised, because of what He has done for us. He begot us, which means to be born again, simply through His abundant mercy. We ask, God why in the world would you want to transform me into a new creature… why would you take the time to even bother with me? It is simply through the abundance of His mercy.

God loves you and has given you a living hope, and His name is Jesus. Our hope isn’t a hope that has died and stayed that way, unlike every other prophet or religious teacher from every other religion, it is a hope that has resurrected from the dead.

Through the blood of Jesus He has given us access to an inheritance in heaven that is waiting for us. This is something that is true for the believer no matter how they feel and no matter how recently they have fallen. Your inheritance is incorruptible. Strong’s defines it as “not liable to corruption or decay, imperishable, or immortal”. There is nothing that can corrupt it and nothing can cause it to decay or perish, it is immortal.

Our inheritance, our eternal position as kings and priests in the kingdom of God, has been redeemed and it is undefiled, it is unsoiled, and there is nothing that can defile it. Not only will it never fade away but there is nothing you can do to lose it. Amazing.

Surely when we take a second to think about this inheritance that Jesus has obtained for us we, like Paul, can only say “Praised and blessed be God”.
