[Psa 139:1-6 NKJV] 1 For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. O LORD, You have searched me and known [me]. 2 You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. 3 You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways. 4 For [there is] not a word on my tongue, [But] behold, O LORD, You know it altogether. 5 You have hedged me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me. 6 [Such] knowledge [is] too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot [attain] it.
God has searched me out. He knows exactly how I feel. He knows every step I take, and sees how much pain there is each time I arise after I have fallen. I feel as though no one can understand me, but God knows my thoughts and understands how I feel before those thoughts even come to my mind. God knows well my paths– even if I think no one cares. He comprehends it. He knows where it is going, even though I do not. Before a word comes to my mouth God has already heard it, and with His great heart of compassion has decided to come to my aid. God has put a wall of protection in font of me and behind me. His hand is upon me to protect me and to guide me into His perfect will. He will get me to the perfect path of His will.
How can I even begin to comprehend all of that? It is too wonderful, too amazing. I cannot begin to fully understand it.
[Psa 139:7-12 NKJV] 7 Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? 8 If I ascend into heaven, You [are] there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You [are there]. 9 [If] I take the wings of the morning, [And] dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, 10 Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me. 11 If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” Even the night shall be light about me; 12 Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, But the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light [are] both alike [to You].
There is no where I can run to where God will not be at my side. There is no where I can go where God will not continue to hold me up. Even the darkest of night is as day to Him. Even though I feel like there is no hope for my life right now God can bring hope out of nothing and light out of darkness.
[Psa 139:13-18 NKJV] 13 For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. 14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully [and] wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And [that] my soul knows very well. 15 My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, [And] skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When [as yet there were] none of them. 17 How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! 18 [If] I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You.
God made me. Not only did He make me, but He was personally involved in my creation. He made me well and with skill. If He did that then how could He not be still interested in my life? God knows the end result of my life, and He knows about every day of my life before it even happens. If He knows that then I should trust Him that He has a plan and will make His good will come to pass in my life. And above all that God has countless precious thoughts towards me. Everyday that I awake He is there still, and thinks of me. I am never alone.
[Psa 139:19-24 NKJV] 19 Oh, that You would slay the wicked, O God! Depart from me, therefore, you bloodthirsty men. 20 For they speak against You wickedly; Your enemies take [Your name] in vain. 21 Do I not hate them, O LORD, who hate You? And do I not loathe those who rise up against You? 22 I hate them with perfect hatred; I count them my enemies. 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if [there is any] wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.
My heart is for You God. Those who oppose you oppose me. Those who are Your enemies make them mine as well.
Search me, God, know and see into my heart (for only You can). Test me (and purify me) and know my anxieties and worries. If there is any wicked way in me, then change me and lead me into the right path. Lead me into the path of righteousness. Lead me into eternity.
Make It Personal
What I wrote above is how to make God’s Word personal to you. God speaks to us through His Word so when we read it we can read it as though it were written to us. Just be careful not to take anything out of context.
Making the Word of God personal to us is one way we can further develop our relationship with God. When we pray it is through His Word He often speaks back. The Psalms are a great place to start, and you will find that there is always a Psalm to help you pray and pour out your heart before God (and to hear from Him as well).
