[Through] the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. [They are] new every morning; Great [is] Your faithfulness. –Lamentations 3:23
There are some verses that comfort me often, and this is one of them. I am so thankful that it is true. I know theologically that I am saved by faith, and that all my sins (past, present and future) are forgiven… but when I sin I can’t help but still feel miserable.
It is those times where I feel miserable that I am thankful that the Lord’s mercies and compassions are new every morning.
The fact that each day is separate from another is a blessing. If you had a bad day, or you messed up, there will be a new day tomorrow.
When you feel miserable, it helps to know waking up the next morning that God’s mercy and compassion is new. That feeling of miserableness, of failing a God I love, is softened by the sweet compassion and mercy of His faithfulness which greets me.
So if you are a Christian, and you sinned, and you know you are saved and feel miserable even still, hang in there– tomorrow you will feel better. In the morning God’s mercy will greet you, and his compassion will soothe your aching heart.
