War Such As This

There is a war,
Yet few it have known.
There is a battle,
Which rages silently on.

I thought I knew battle;
Yet, I knew but skirmish.
It’s fierce here, we said with a sweat;
Yet, I knew nothing of war till here I bled.

I have seen great captains holding fast,
Surrounded without,
Supplanted within,
Beaten to an inch of life so thin.

We have taken great casualties,
Many a friend.
Still onward we press,
To glory and death.

Such munitions we have,
Gained long before.
Times of hidden devotion,
Forged character of Godly notion.

Few know of war such as this,
And if they do they know little of it.
Praise be to my King,
For He has trained both my hands to be fit.

You there, valiant warrior sitting amiss,
Today is the day to enlist.
Onward we march, till death and glory,
Pick up your sword and be holy.

How grand it is to serve my King,
No battle too big,
No foe too strong,
My heart at peace, as victory comes.

There is a war,
Yet few it have known.
There is a battle,
Which rages silently on.
